Protect Cotton from Weeds and Grasses at Preemergence in 2023
Most cotton growers know that having a powerful weed management plan in place at the start of the season is crucial to the success of their yields. With unpredictable weather conditions and a growing list of herbicide-resistant weeds, it’s important to take preventative action when it comes to protecting your bottom line.
Using a preemergence herbicide with multiple sites of action next season can reduce the risk of herbicide-resistant weeds during key times of the growing season while offering powerful protection from weeds and grasses that may strike later in the season.
Agronomy Service Representative Tripp Walker shares what he’s seen in the field at the Greenwood, MS, Grow More™ Experience site when it comes to preemergence weed control:
- Tavium® Plus VaporGrip® Technology herbicide is a preemergence premix of Dual Magnum® herbicide and dicamba, managing key broadleaf and grass weeds in dicamba-tolerant cotton. The use of this premix on broadleaf weeds and grasses has resulted in impressive control as seen in field trials.
- In the trial featured above, the use of Dual Magnum at preemergence provided outstanding control of grass and broadleaf material. Additionally, with the Tavium application, the field saw great results in controlling persistent and difficult weeds such as morning glory.
- Trials showed the treated rows of cotton were essentially spotless after a single application of Tavium, even at 72 days after application.
