Managing Weeds Early is Key to Protecting Corn’s Yield Potential

Time is of the essence when it comes to managing early-season weed pressure. Immediately after planting, weeds begin altering the way surrounding corn plants grow as they compete for vital resources like nitrogen, sunlight and water. The competition along with the resulting changes in corn growth permanently reduce yield potential and cannot be overcome with post-emergence weed control.
Another problem with delaying management? Weeds grow quickly and become harder to manage once they reach 4” in height (about the size of a lighter). Such rapid growth can limit post-emergence management options and increases the chance of herbicide-resistant weeds adding more seeds into the weed seed bank.
Watch as Agronomy Service Representative Phil Krieg explains the importance of timely weed management in corn.
Good early-season management (i.e., starting the season with clean, weed-free rows) prevents weeds from competing and leads to higher yield potential, with Acuron® corn herbicide outyielding competitors by 5-15 bushels an acre due to its powerful weed control, longest-lasting residual and proven crop safety.* Calculate what those extra bushels could mean for your revenue potential.
