Maintain Clean Soybean Fields with a Post-Emergence Herbicide

Apply a post-emergence herbicide to keep your fields clean all season long.
At this point in the season, it’s essential to be thinking about ways to maintain a clean field until soybeans reach canopy. Since weeds compete with soybeans for nutrients and sunlight, preventing weeds from taking over is a key component to maximizing yield potential.
The University of Illinois says many environmental factors, such as rainfall, influence the level of weed control achieved by soil-residual herbicides. So, simply applying a soil-residual herbicide does not guarantee the product will provide the desired level or duration of weed control. This means a post-emergence herbicide might be necessary to ensure your soybeans are well-protected against weeds throughout the growing season.
Choosing an effective post-emergence herbicide is especially important. When selecting a herbicide, choose one that contains multiple sites of action (SOAs) that are effective against the spectrum of weeds present. Additionally, using a post-emergence herbicide with different active ingredients from those in your pre-emergence herbicide can help prevent the development of weed resistance.
For an added layer of weed management, we recommend following Boundary® 6.5 EC and BroadAxe® XC herbicides with Flexstar® GT 3.5 herbicide. You can also follow Boundary 6.5 EC with Prefix® herbicide. Flexstar GT 3.5 and Prefix each contain 2 different SOAs for extended residual activity to manage key ALS- and glyphosate-resistant weeds.
Managing weeds effectively requires more than just a pre-emergence herbicide. Getting ahead of weed pressures and following through with a post-emergence herbicide for an added layer of control will keep your fields clean and give your soybeans the best chance of growing strong this season.
