Fight Back Against Fungicide Resistance

January 28, 2020
This agronomic image shows a potato field.

Fungicides and fungicide seed treatments are effective management tools for a range of debilitating, yield-robbing diseases. Yearly fungicide applications offer you the best way to control these diseases, even when environmental conditions do not favor severe disease development.

However, repeated use of just 1 active ingredient increases the risk of fungicide resistance. To combat this threat, it’s important to develop a strong disease management program that incorporates different fungicides and seed treatments with varied active ingredients. By not over relying on a single fungicide and site of action, you can maintain the efficacy of your applications and continue to protect your fields against disease, maximizing yields at season’s end.

A strong management program is especially important against diseases like Rhizoctonia, which overwinters in soil causing slowed emergence, reduced stand and reduced tuber set in infected potato plants. Left unchecked, the disease can stunt growth, reduce tuber size and cause the formation of aerial tubers.

To defend your fields against Rhizoctonia while also taking preventive action against fungicide resistance, consider using CruiserMaxx® Potato Extreme seed treatment insecticide/fungicide followed by an in-furrow application of Elatus® fungicide. By combining 2 different sets of active ingredients, your fields receive the protection they need against Rhizoctonia and other diseases while minimizing the risk of disease resistance.
