Ohio City, Ohio: Heavy, unexpected rainfall during 2017 planting made timing herbicide applications stressful, and the weed pressures that followed didn’t help either. Our Syngenta agronomists helped area growers overcome these challenges. Below are two of those stories.

Grower Mark Keber attributed the early giant ragweed and marestail pressure in his fields to the unusually wet conditions, which delayed herbicide application past the recommended pre-emergence timing. Unable to apply his herbicide pre-emergence, Keber had to wait until post-emergence. By then, giant ragweed and marestail were already up and gaining a foothold in his fields.

Just down the road, grower Dave Allmandinger’s concerns revolved around residual control. Allmandinger applied his herbicide following the planter but had to replant some of his popcorn up to 4 times. He worried that the residual would not control the cocklebur, velvetleaf and grasses in the later-planted fields until canopy.

Both Keber and Allmandinger applied Acuron® corn herbicide in their fields and had noticeably clean fields after application and through canopy.
