Consider Broad-Spectrum Residual Herbicides This Year

As a grower, you lead a busy life and seek to maximize efficiencies in all aspects of your farm’s operations. That includes ensuring you’re seeing the highest possible efficacy from your herbicide program, all season long.

It’s especially important that your herbicides perform through the critical early-growth period and through crop canopy, when young crops are most vulnerable to competition from tough weeds.

Not only that, it’s critical to evaluate your previous herbicide programs and choose products that deliver broad-spectrum weed management and residual activity. To do this, you should apply 2-pass applications at the full label rates.

Herbicides with long-lasting residual control help maintain clean fields and avoid expensive resprays late in the season. By starting with a preemergence application of a herbicide with multiple effective sites of action and residual activity then following it up with an overlapping post-emergence product that provides the same, you have a stronger chance of seeing clean fields through harvest.

Crucially, this consistent coverage not only helps reduce the yield loss that can result from unchecked weed competition, but can also minimize the number of weed escapes you experience. This, in turn, keeps deposits to your soil seed bank lower, a benefit to your farm over the long-term in the fight against herbicide resistance.

For dicamba-tolerant soybeans and cotton, we recommend Tavium® Plus VaporGrip® Technology herbicide, the Syngenta dicamba herbicide premix and the first product of its kind on the market. It contains 2 effective sites of action, combining the contact control of dicamba with the residual of S-metolachlor.

For an effective full-season herbicide program, use Tavium early post-emergence following Boundary® 6.5 EC, BroadAxe® XC or Prefix® herbicides in dicamba-tolerant soybeans, and Caparol® 4L or Reflex® herbicides in dicamba-tolerant cotton. When used in a preemergence application, Tavium can be followed by Sequence®, Flexstar® GT 3.5 or Prefix herbicides in soybeans.
