BeSure! to Follow Best Field Practices

During the growing season, BeSure! to read product labels – including precautions and application recommendations – with every new purchase. Labels can change year-to-year, and provide you with important information regarding proper storage, use and disposal of products.
Not sure what personal protective equipment you should be using in the field? The label shares specific instructions on how to cover exposed skin. To ensure your safety while spraying, cleaning equipment and avoiding accidental exposure, wear the following garments:
- Protective goggles
- Non-absorbent gloves
- Closed toe shoes
Knowing where flowering plants and pollinator forage are located – in proximity to treated areas – can help you establish appropriate buffer zones and calibrate equipment to minimize spray drift. Labels also include requirements for correct and effective pesticide application conditions, including wind speed, wind direction, temperature, and relative humidity.
Following these directions can help avoid accidental exposure to insect pollinators and other non-target pests in or near the treatment area. Cooperation and communication among growers, landowners, applicators, beekeepers, crop advisors and local officials in the pesticide application area is also highly encouraged and advisable.
