Be Sure to Clean out Planters

May 20, 2019

As the 2019 season continues, it’s important to remember that seed treatment stewardship does not end when the seed is in the ground. After planting treated seed, growers should be sure to clean out planters and seed boxes away from sensitive environmental areas, avoiding areas that are attractive to pollinators, such as field margins with flowering crops or weeds. Growers should also avoid cleaning out planters and seed boxes near beehives.

Other important considerations include avoiding the use of compressed air, since it can generate dust drift, and ensuring that the rinse water used to clean equipment is not dumped on soil, surface water, ground water or in septic systems.
