    Cutting alfalfa late in the season has its risks

    WISCONSIN: Over the past week, many growers have been harvesting their fourth cutting of alfalfa. When harvesting at this point in the growing season, the risk of winter injury to the alfalfa stand is significantly increased. After alfalfa is cut, the plant uses energy stored in the root for regrowth.
