Growers in the U.S. are preparing to plant more acres of chickpeas than ever before. Many northern growers, looking for more profitable alternatives to wheat, are taking advantage of the growing chickpea market. Chickpea acreage is expected to increase by more than 50% this year, thanks in large part to a growing demand for gluten-free products.
While increasing crop options is good news to growers, expanded acreage also means increased disease risk.
